The University of Utah swimming and diving team focused on more than just its performance in the water this past year. The Utes had six men and six women named to the 2001 Mountain West Conference Academic All-Conference team.
Qualifiers for the men's team were: Brandon Durrant, Daniel Godfrey, Paul Hellinga, Magnus Lofgren, Trent Shino, and James Thompson. The women's qualifiers were: Melissa Chamberlin, Rebecca Gerber, Kimberly Lewis, Jill Comins, Amber Nye, and Jamie Wayman.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.
