SALT LAKE CITY -
The Ute gymnastics team will spend next week taking final exams so there are no required practices. The Utes, who had the highest GPA of any gymnastics team in 2000 and the second highest in 2001, always conduct optional workouts during finals week. That way, the student-athletes can focus on preparing for their exams.
On Dec. 15, the gymnasts leave for Christmas break. Practices will resume on Dec. 27. On Jan. 2, the Ute gymnasts will appear at the men's basketball game against Whitworth.
The annual Red-White intra-squad meet will be held on Sat., Jan. 5 starting at 2:00 p.m. in the Dumke Gymnastics Center. The public is welcome to attend, free of charge.
The first Crimson Club Chalk Talk is scheduled for Wed., Jan. 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Huntsman Center lounge. It is also open to the public. The team will be introduced, participate in a question and answer session and autograph team posters.
The Utes will open their 2002 season at home against Ohio State on Fri., Jan. 11 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. They'll try to build on their national record home court win streak (for any sport), which currently stands at 164. The Ute gymnasts have not lost a regular season home meet in 22 years.
