Members of the University of Utah men's and women's swimming teams took a break from training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center to compete in the Air Force Holiday Classic on Wednesday. The classic consisted of five events with individual scoring.
The top finishers for the men were Daniel Godfrey and Cody Rempfer, finishing with 11 points each. Rempfer finished first in the 100-yard fly with a time of 54.56 and second in the 100 IM (57.98). Godfrey finished first in the 100 breast (1:02.84) and fourth in the 100 IM (58.33).
For the women, Courtney McKinney finished with 13 points. McKinney took top honors in the 100 IM (1:03.16) and second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.89. Sara Afong and Neringa Statkeviciute finished tied for second with 11 points each. Afong finished first in the 100 fly (1:01.47) and second in the 100 free (55.65). Statkeviciute finished first in the 100 free (52.56) and second in the 100 IM (1:04.58).
The Utes will take a break before traveling to Seattle, Wash., to compete against Washington on Jan. 12. Utah will have two home meets against MWC opponents, New Mexico on Jan. 18, and Colorado State on Jan. 19.
