Utah sophomore Neringa Statkeviciute has been named Mountain West Conference Swimmer of the Week. This marks the first time in her career she has been honored.
The Kaunas, Lithuania, native was honored after her impressive performance against Brigham Young last Friday. Statkeviciute finished first in the only two events she competed in. She won the 50 free in 23.85, which is the fourth fastest time in Utah school history. Statkevicuute also captured top honors in the 100 free with a time of 51.26, the second fastest mark in Ute history in the event. She was also a member of the 400 free relay team that placed first against Brigham Young (3:31.78).
Statkeviciute and the rest of the Utes return to action on Saturday in Ute Natatorium against the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. The coed meet will begin at 2:00 p.m. (MST). The Utah women's team is 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the MWC, while the men's team is 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference. UNLV will face Brigham Young on Friday before traveling to Salt Lake City to face the Utes. Both Rebel teams are 1-0 overall and 0-0 in the MWC.
