FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Last year, Utah ski team member, Torin Koos, skied his way onto the United States Ski Team. On Saturday, Koos led the U.S. team to victory at the Continental Cup ski races at the Birch Hill Recreation Area. The native of Leavenworth, Washington finished in first place at the competition.
"It was really good racing," U.S. Head Coach Christer Skog said. "Torrin (Koos) did the same in every lap. He really put the hammer down on the uphill and had everything totally in control all the way."
Former Ute skier, Pat Casey finished in third place in the competition. Casey serves as a fifth-year assistant for this year's Utah squad.
The results from the Continental Cup races will be part of the weighing process in the selection of the 2002 Winter Games Olympic team members. The next race in the series will be held Nov. 22-24 at Silver Star, B.C.
Competition will begin in January for the Utes, who will compete on the slopes until March.
