THIS WEEK: This Friday, the University of Utah swimming and diving teams will host a non-conference meet against Pacific at 5:00 p.m. (MST). Saturday, the women will host Mountain West Conference rival San Diego State at 1:00 p.m. (MST). The meets will be held at Ute Natatorium, located north of the Huntsman Center. The Ute women are 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the MWC. The men are 0-2 both overall and in the MWC.
UNLV RECAP: The University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted UNLV on Saturday in a dual meet. The Ute women defeated UNLV for the first time in school history by a score of 117-114. The men fell to UNLV ranked 23rd in the nation, 149.5 to 89.5.
The women were led by sophomore Neringa Statkeviciute, who finished first in the two individual events she competed in. Stakeviciute took top honors in the 50 free (24.16) for the second straight week. She also won the 100 free for the fourth straight week with a time of 51.59. Senior Courtney McKinney and Loren Sweny finished first in the 200 IM and the 200 back, respectively. Diver Kerri Fiori won the one meter diving event with a score of 199.35.
Freshman Evan Castro led the men's team by finishing first in the 200 breast (2:07.31) and second in the 200 free. David Johnson, a native of Salt Lake, finished first in the 200 back with a time of 1:55.45.
QUOTING COACH MIKE LITZINGER: "Pacific is the Big West Conference defending champion, and is one of the better teams we will face all year. San Diego State is a conference meet and those are always important."
UTE NOTES: Cody Rempfer was named MWC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 24. Rempfer set a Colorado State Early Bird Invitational record in the 200 fly (1:52.87). He has won the 200 fly in the both of the meets he has competed in. ... Loren Sweny set a Utah school record in the 200 back (2:05.27) against Oregon State. ... Neringa Statkeviciute is second on the Utah top performances list in the 100 free, posting a time of 51.26 against BYU. Statkeviciute has finished first in the 100 free four weeks in a row. She also ranks fourth on the Ute top performances list in 50 free (23.85), winning the event in the last two meets.
