The University of Utah Invitational wrapped up the alpine skiing competition at the Eagle Arena in Park City on Friday, Jan. 5. The alpine skiers completed the first half of the invitational, with the cross-country skiers finishing the competition on Jan. 15-16.

The University of Colorado set the pace, leading the alpine competition with 211 points. Colorado took control of the men's slalom event on Friday to maintain the lead. The University of Denver trails Colorado by just two points. Denver placed two skiers in the top five of the women's slalom, Barbara Knor placed second and Cecilie Hagen Larsen placed fourth.

Utah had a strong performance from their women's slalom team and currently sits third in the standings. Petra Svet placed fifth, while April Mancuso, and Annik Boulva placed seventh and ninth, respectivelly. Sophomore Jed Schuetze earned top points and his first collegiate podium finish for Utah in the men's slalom, as he was second only to non-scoring Sierra-Nevada's Mike Prado. The next highest finisher for the Utes was Jernej Bukovec, who placed 22nd.

In Thursday's competition, Bukovec placed first for the Utes in the Giant Slalom, while Schuetze placed 12th. Mancuso placed eighth in the women's competition, followed by Svet in fifth.

The cross-country events will be held at Soldier Hollow Jan. 15-16 and will wrap up the Invitational.
