SALT LAKE CITY - Darin Mai and Carrie Ziebarth will join the swimming and diving coaching staff at the University of Utah. The announcement came today from new head coach Michael Litzinger.
Mai, who will be the men's assistant coach, comes to the U. after spending the past two years as an assistant men's coach at the University of Texas, helping to lead the Longhorns to the 2000 NCAA Championship. In addition to his on deck duties at UT, he also directed the dryland and weight training programs. Mai received his master's of education degree in kinesiology while at Texas, and served as a graduate assistant in the kinesiology department where he taught swimming and conditioning classes, as well as triathalon training.
Mai received his bachelor's degree in dietetics at U.C. Davis. He captained the Aggies swimming team in 1995-96 and the named the school's swimmer of the year in 1995.
Ziebarth, who will be the Utes' new diving coach, recently concluded a stellar diving career at Ohio State University. Ziebarth left her mark on one of the most storied diving programs in the country. She was an All-American in the one and three-meter events in 1997, then repeated on the one meter in 1998. Ziebarth was also the Big Ten Conference champion on the platform in 1997 and the one meter in 2000.
Ziebarth's coaching experience is extensive, previously working as a diving instructor for the Ohio State Divers, King County Aquatic Center and Barrington Elementary School.
