BOISE, Idaho -
Four Utes combined to earn 13 All-America awards at the 2000 NCAA Championships in Boise, Idaho. They and their fellow All-Americans were honored at a brunch on April 15 on the BSU campus. To receive first-team All-America honors, a gymnast must finish in the top four (including ties) in her session on the first day of NCAA competition. Second-team honors were bestowed on gymnasts who finished between 5-8 (including ties) in their session on April 13.
Although the All-America teams have already been determined, only the all-around finishes were decided on April 13. The individual event championships will take place the evening of April 15.
Denise Jones, who won All-America honors on every event and the all-around, led the All-America parade for the 2000 NCAA runner-up Utes. Jones is a first-team All-American in the all-around, where she tied for sixth (39.400), and on beam and floor. She earned second team honors on vault and bars.
Deidra Graham is also a first-team All-America all-arounder after placing 10th (39.275). She won first-team honors on beam, as well, and was second-team on floor. Angelika Schatton is a first-team balance beam All-American and made the second team as an all-arounder (18th, tie). Schmidt made first-team All-American on the bars. Making the All-America second team were Ashley Kever on floor and Kim Allan on beam.
