AUBURN, ALA.- Competition began today at the U.S. Open in Auburn, Ala.
Utah swimmer and team captain, Heidi Hausknecht swam her first event of the competition with satisfactory results. Hausknecht finished the 50 free with a time of 26.00, which earned her a sixth place finish in a field of 24 top swimmers. The competition is not over for Hausknecht. With two days of swimming left, she is scheduled to compete in the 100 butterfly, which will take place on Fri., and the 100 freestyle which will be on Sat.
Freshman Kristen Kaiser is the only other Ute to travel to this prestigious competition. Kaiser will begin competition on Fri. in the 400 IM. The event that she broke the Utah record in earlier this season with a time of 4:35.44. She will resume competition on Sat. in the 200 butterfly and the 800 freestyle events.
