PROVO, UTAH- The Utes began conference competition on Fri., Oct. 27, with both the men's and women's teams losing to the 2000 Mountain West Conference Champions, Brigham Young.
One the women's side, as a team, the Utes totaled 106.00 points, while the Cougars posted 137.00 points. Freshman, Kristen Kaiser swam to a first-place finish in the 500 free and 1000 free, followed closely by Melissa Walker, who grabbed the second spot in the same events. Team Captain, Erin Blundell, was also a top finisher in the 200 free and 200 fly. The Utes utilized the strength of their relay teams to capture the one and two spot in the 400 free relay.
For the men, BYU capitalized with a final team score of 157.00 points, followed by Utah's 78.00 points. Tom Allen and Keric Allen went two and three in the 200 fly, followed by Joe Linford in fourth. Diver Sterling Richards, placed second in the three-meter dive and third in the one-meter dive.
