SALT LAKE CITY -
The University of Utah gymnasts compiled the fourth-best grade point average of any gymnastics team in the nation last year. Utah, which achieved a 3.568 cumulative GPA in the 1998-99 academic year, tied for fourth with Alabama. In first was Southern Utah (3.681), followed by Wilson College (3.66) and Louisiana State (3.576). Eight Ute gymnasts were named Scholastic All-Americans, led by 1999 NCAA all-around and balance beam champion Theresa Kulikowski, who carries a perfect 4.0 GPA. Other Utes named Scholastic All-Americans: Denise Jones (3.90), Ashley Kever (3.87), Jenny Schmidt (3.86), Angelika Schatton (3.83), Molly Northrop (3.76), Shannon Bowles (3.65) and Sarah Northrop (3.61). Kylee Wagner (3.49) and Lindsay Tanner (3.48) made honorable mention. In addition, Bowles was named to the 1999 GTE/CoSIDA District 8 Academic All-America team.
