PARK CITY, Utah - The University of Utah Ski Invitational concluded on Saturday, Feb. 21, with the closest finish of the season. New Mexico came back from fourth place after the alpine races, to down Denver by one point in the final standings. The Lobos amassed 411 points to Denver's 410 followed by Utah at third with 389.5 race points.
Frode Kollerud led the Ute nordic squad taking first in the men's 10K classic cross country race. Kollerud edged Colorado's Magnus Eriksson by fifty-two seconds to take first. Rune Kollerud also turned in a solid finish placing tenth. Injuries and illness plagued the women's cross country team as three of five skiers were sidelined. Kristina Joder and Lene Pedersen carried the women's squad, finishing twelfth and fifteenth respectively.
Next weekend, on Feb. 27, and 28, the Utes will compete in the Regional Invitational held in Reno, Nevada. This will be Utah's final regular season competition of the season. Following the Regional Invitational, the Utes will travel to Sunday, River, Maine for the NCAA Championships on Mar. 10-13.
