The University of Utah finished the first day of competition at the Western State College Invitational in second place. The Utes trail first-place Colorado by 18 points. Strong performances were turned in by Liz Sherry who finished fourth in the women's slalom, Rune Kollerud who took second in the men's classic cross country, and Markus Leunig who earned seventh in the men's slalom. Competition resumes tomorrow with the men's and women's giant slalom, the men's 10K cross country skate, and women's 5K cross country skate.
