SALT LAKE CITY -
The University of Utah gymnastics team was picked to repeat its fourth-place NCAA finish of a year ago in the 1999 Preseason Coaches Poll. Utah received 820 votes in the preseason poll, behind Georgia (942), Florida (873) and UCLA (824). The Utes received one first place vote. Rounding out the top 12 were: Alabama, Arizona State, Michigan, Washington, Louisiana State, Stanford, Nebraska and Brigham Young. Five of Utah's upcoming opponents were ranked in the top 12 (No. 2 Florida, No. 8 Washington, No. 9 LSU, No. 10 Stanford and No. 12 BYU). Other top 25 teams on Utah's 1999 schedule include Oregon State (15), Arizona (16), Minnesota (18) and Utah State (23). The Utes' other two opponents, Southern Utah and New Hampshire, both received votes.
