SALT LAKE CITY - At the Minnesota Invitational, the Utah men's swimming and diving team tallied a score of 293.5 for a fourth-place finish. The Ute women finished sixth scoring 163 points. Junior Johan Nystrom dominated the sprint freestyle lanes winning the 50, 100 and 200 events. Nystrom qualified with an NCAA B standard times in the 100 and 200 free. Mike Greene set a Minnesota Invitational record in the 100 back with a time of 49.72 (previously held at 49.83 by Duane Dobko of Minnesota). Greene won the 100 and 200 backstroke and was fourth in the 100 fly. Sprint freestyler Troy Johnson was second in the 100 and third in the 50 freestyle.
For the women, Molly Lauber qualified with an NCAA B standard time in the 100 breast with a second-place finish (1:03.99). She was fourth in the 200 breast and 50 free. Diver Erica Fleming finished second in the platform event breaking the Utah record with a score of 298.10 (previously set at 265.50 by Kristy Mayo). Heidi Duckworth swam to a sixth-place finish in the 100 free and was ninth in the 100 fly, Crystal Gregory was fourth in the 3-meter dive and Heike Kutz was 10th in the 100 back. The Utes take a month off from competition for an intensive winter training regimen. Utah returns to the dual meet season Jan. 2 against New Mexico.
