Salt Lake City - The University of Utah women?s basketball team out-scored in-state rival Weber State by 20 points to win the game, 62-42 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center, Thurs., Dec. 9.
Sophomore Lauren Beckman led the Utes with a season-high 20 points. Beckman led the team with 9 boards and was 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Teammate Lindsay Sodja posted 11 points and went 4-for-5 from the field. Senior guard, Tiana Fuertes added 10 points and five assists, while Amy Ewert totaled five steals. The Utes shot 35 percent from the field in the first half and stepped it up in the second half making 10-of-18 for 56 percent and 43 percent in the game. For the game, the Utes shot 33 percent from behind the three-point line and 76 percent from the free-throw line. Utah improves to 4-2 overall, 0-0 in the MWC. Weber State drops to 2-4 overall, 0-0 in conference play
For Weber State, Crystal Howe posted 15 points, making 6-of-10 from the field. Shelley Olson and Stephanie Stanger each added eight points. The Wildcats shot only 25 percent from the field (5-of-20) in the first half, 45 percent (9-of-20) in the second half and 35 percent in the game.
?I think it was a better 20 minutes and a better second half for us. Our defense was very good tonight, Amy Ewert was exceptional and she works so hard to get done what you ask of her defensively. She?s a focused player, and intense player and an intelligent player. I?m really pleased with what she?s given us at the defensive end of the floor. ?

On Fri., Dec. 10, the Utes take on Whitworth College in the Jon M. Huntsman Center at 7:00 p.m. Utah will then travel back to Idaho on Sat. Dec. 18 where they will participate in the two-day Boise State Tournament. The Utes will take on the University of San Francisco on Wed., Dec. 22, at home at 7:00 p.m. Utah will play Stanford at home on Dec. 29 at 7:00 p.m. On Jan. 4, the Utes travel to Dallas, Texas to take on the SMU Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. (CST). Utah travels to Moraga, Calif. on Jan. 6 to take on St. Mary?s at 7:30 p.m. (PST). The Utes open their conference schedule on Thurs., Jan 13 in San Diego, Calif., against the Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. (PST). On Sat., Jan. 15, Utah travels to Las Vegas, Nev. To take on UNLV at 7:35 p.m. (PST). Utah is back in action at home when they take on MWC opponent Wyoming, Thurs., Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m. (PST).
