MISSOULA, Mont. - The Utah women's basketball team is 1-2 on the season after falling in a 56-64 loss to the Montana Grizzlies. Utah dominated the boards with 19 offensive and 23 defensive rebounds, leaving the Lady Grizz with only 34. Both teams struggled from the field, Utah shooting 21 of 62 and Montana scoring 18 of 49.
Utah's downfall was ultimately the result of missed shots from the field and the free throw line. Utah was 6-11 from the line and 21-62 from the field. The only thing keeping the Utes in the game was three-pointers. Senior Tiana Fuertes led Utah in points with 15, including four three-pointers. Erin Gibbons scored nine points in the game on three-point shots. Lauren Beckman also had nine points.
"We're just not putting it in the hole," Head Coach Elaine Elliott said. "We shot inconsistently from both the field and the free throw line the entire game. We out boarded them, but the bottom line is that we didn't go 11 for 11 in free throws and we let them have 25. We just can't live with that kind of differential."
